2013 Junior National Road and Track Championships

Junior Road Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin went quite well this year for 15 year old Luke Mullis.  Out of a field of over 90 boys, Luke came 33rd in the time trial, 75th in the road race, and 74th in the crit.  Just finishing the road race was an awesome accomplishment, as many DNF'd.

A few more juniors went to track nationals that to road nationals. Luke Mullis, Ben Hume, Douglas Wells, and Max Staran all went to represent the Wolverine Sports Club at junior track nationals.

Top ten placings from the Wolverine Juniors:
Luke Mullis 9th in the points race final 15-16

2013 Maple Hill State Road Race

The 2013 Maple Hill State Road Race took place on the 14th of July and was the Michigan state championship road race.
Although no one from the Wolverine Sports Club was crowned the Michigan state champion, there were still many top ten finishes!

Milford Criterium

Milford Criterium was definitely a very rainy event this year, especially during the pro men's race.  However, the Wolverine Elite team persisted and still got some great results!

Randy Rodd 7th in the pro 1/2 men
John Sammut 9th in the masters 45+
Cameron Robertson 2nd in the junior men 10-14

Sylvania Cycling Classic, Ohio

Taking place in Ohio, the Sylvania Cycling Classic was a big criterium race in which many people took apart in.
Three Wolverines went down to Ohio to participate in this race, and all stood on the podium!
Scott Kroske got 3rd in the Masters 45+ race
Erin Robertson got 2nd in the women's cat 4 race
Cameron Robertson won his first race of the season, winning the junior men 10-14 catagory!

Miller Energy Criterium (BTR)

The Miller Energy Criterium took place on July 13th, 2013.  
The notable results from this race were as follows:

Cherry Roubaix

Like the Tour de Mont Pleasant, Cherry Roubaix is an omnium event from June 14th-16th. (Time trial, crit, and road race).
Probably the most important event was the criterium race on Saturday.  The crit was the state championship crit!  The winner of each race would get a state championship title!

Le Tour de Mont Plesant

Le Tour de Mont Plesant was an omnium event (a time trial, road race, and criterium) from July 7th-9th. It started with a 3.87 mile time trial, followed by a road race, and a criterium on Sunday.

West Branch Classic

On Saturday, June 1st, there was a hilly road race and on Sunday, June 2nd, there was an intense, fast criterium race.  Both races were MBRA points series races. 
The road race course was a very hilly 22 mile-per-lap course, with the pro 1/2 men doing 88 miles.

Notable finishes for the road race:
Sven Baumann - 10th in the pro 1/2 men

Paul Heirtzler - 9th Masters 35+
Cameron Roberston - 7th junior 12-14 men

Tour de Frankenmuth

The Tour de Frankenmuth is part of the Michigan Challenge Series.  Some of the juniors did one lap, 16 miles, but the pro 1/2 men did 80 miles/5 laps.
The race took place in the downtown area of Frankenmuth on May the 25th.

Cone-Azalia Road Race

Sunday May 5th
Milan MI
Another wonderful Spring day for the Cone Azalia Road Race with the temperatures in the 60's and 70's. However, the dry, dusty conditions proved to be tough for the Wolverines with many riders having a hard day in the saddle. Not so for Sven Baumann who despite flatting managed to get back with the lead group finishing second in a thrilling field sprint to Dan Korienek in the Pro men's catagory.

Other notable placings came from:
Edwin Ho - 10th place in the Cat 5 Men 35+
Patrick Robb - 10th place in the Cat 3 Men
Cameron Robertson - 5th place in the Junior 10-14
Brian Kozeliski also hung in the Cat 1/2 Men for a 22nd place finish after many others had DNF'd
Former Wolverine Danielle Mullis also managed her first Cat 1,2,3 Women's Road Race win.

Willow Run Time Trial


April 27th 2013
The Willow Run Time Trial is the curtain opener for the Michigan Challenge Series and one of the main events run by the Wolverines during the year.
The conditions were ideal, dry, warm and sunny with very little wind resulting in fast times for the day. Find below a novel way at looking at how our team finished.
Our very own Sven Baumann was the fastest competitor on the day with a time of 28 minutes and 03 seconds. Luke Mullis also managed a 2nd place in a strong Junior Men 15-18 field with a time of 31 minutes and 47 seconds. Kelly Patterson also finished in 2nd place in the Women 35+ with a time of 35 minutes 38 seconds.
